No surprises, in plain language.

What we collect, why, and what choices you have. We tried to write this the way we try to do everything here — clearly.

Sporting Hound (“we,” “us,” or “the site”) helps people discover dog sports, find trainers, clubs, facilities, and events, and connect with adoptable dogs. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what choices you have.

Sporting Hound is currently operated by an individual (not yet a registered company). If you have any questions, you can reach us at privacy@sportinghound.com.

What we collect

When you create an account: your email address, a password (stored securely by our authentication provider — we never see it in plain text), and a display name.

About your dog(s):information you choose to give us — name, breed, age, photos, a short bio, and the sports you’re interested in.

When you use the Sport Matcher: the answers you give about your dog, so we can suggest sports and so you can save your results.

Things you save: trainers, clubs, events, and sports you bookmark.

Your general location:if you choose to share it, so we can show you what’s nearby. You’re always in control of this.

Basic, privacy-friendly analytics: we use cookieless analytics that tell us things like which pages are visited and how the site performs. This does not track you across other websites and does not build an advertising profile of you.

What we don’t collect or do

We don’t show ads, and we don’t sell your personal information. Ever.

We don’t track you across the wider web.

We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. Sporting Hound is intended for adults.

Why we collect it

To create and run your account, to personalize your experience (your dog, your sports, what’s near you), to improve the site, and to send you updates only if you’ve opted in. Providing your email does not by itself sign you up for marketing — you choose that separately with a checkbox, and you can unsubscribe anytime.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the site. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

Supabase — database and account authentication.

Vercel — website hosting and privacy-friendly analytics.

Mapbox— the maps that power “what’s near you.”

We may disclose information if required by law. If Sporting Hound is ever transferred to a new owner, we’ll let you know.

Your choices and rights

You can:

View and edit your account and your dog’s information anytime.

Delete your account and associated data — just contact us at privacy@sportinghound.com.

Opt out of update emails using the unsubscribe link, or by changing your settings.

Ask us what information we hold about you, request a copy, or ask us to correct or delete it.

We honor these rights for everyone, wherever you live. If you’re in the EU, UK, or California, you may have additional legal rights (such as under GDPR or CCPA) — and we aim to respect those rights for all our users regardless of location.

Data security & retention

We use reputable providers and reasonable measures to protect your information, though no online service can promise perfect security. We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to run the site. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information, except where we’re required to keep it.

A note on photos and listings

Some images on Sporting Hound are provided by photographers under license and remain their property. Trainer, club, and facility listings may be created from public information; the people and organizations they describe can contact us to claim, correct, or remove a listing. (As we add features for rescues and shelters to list adoptable dogs, those organizations are responsible for having the right to share that information; we’ll provide guidance when that launches.)

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Sporting Hound grows. We’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll do our best to let you know.
