Water Rescue
PWDCA runs the program for Portuguese Water Dogs. Its tests emphasize fishing-boat heritage tasks: gear retrieval, message delivery between boats, courier work, and controlled swimming. The Water Trial Manual is the canonical reference. Trials are open only to purebred Portuguese Water Dogs registered with AKC (or an AKC-recognized foreign registry, PAL, or ILP). PWDCA awards seven titles across five test levels, and the regional-club culture is tight-knit — handlers often travel between clubs for trials and camps. Exercises are pass/fail; titles require passing every exercise at the level on the same day. The current Water Trial Manual was issued February 2026.
