Agility
Canine Performance Events (CPE) is the most beginner-friendly of the US venues — lower-pressure trials, generous course times, and a games-rich schedule. Dogs advance class by class through numbered Levels 1 to 5 — a dog can move up in one game before finishing another — and then on to Championship (Level C), so progress feels steady. Seven class types mix straightforward numbered courses (Standard, Jumpers) with strategy games (Snooker, Jackpot, Colors, Wildcard, FullHouse). Entry categories — Regular, Specialist (lower jumps), and Enthusiast — keep it accessible. Open to all breeds and mixes.
Hoopers
CPE doesn't run a class called Hoopers. Its hoop-and-tunnel program is SpeedWay — a separate CPE division of short, fast games built on hoops, open tunnels, barrels, and a lure, with its own rulebook. SpeedWay runs as its own trials under a SpeedWay premium, often at the same host clubs as CPE Agility and Canine Scent Sport, with classes and titles tracked separately.
Nose Work / Scent Work
Canine Scent Sport (CSS) is Canine Performance Events' titling scent program, run alongside CPE's agility and SpeedWay and built on the same level ladder — though scent keeps its own points and titles. It climbs a five-odor ladder — birch, then anise and clove, then cypress, then vetiver at the top level — across four elements (containers, interior, exterior, vehicles). Every dog starts at Level 1 regardless of titles earned in other scent venues, and there's no odor-recognition test to clear first.
