Herding
The United States Border Collie Handlers’ Association (USBCHA) sanctions open-field sheepdog and cattledog trials and runs the National Sheepdog and Cattledog Finals together with the American Border Collie Association (ABCA). The Open class is open to all dogs regardless of breed or registration status, though the association exists to promote the working Border Collie. There are no titles: dogs that place in the top 20% of a sanctioned class earn points (Open) or qualifying legs (Nursery) toward the Finals. Courses are national style — outrun, lift, fetch, drive, pen, and shed on a small group of range sheep, with the handler working from the post.
